Compare borrowing by total repayment and payment dates
A repayment figure becomes more useful when you know what it includes and when it is due. Readers in Braamfontein and across South Africa can organise borrowing questions around the complete repayment picture rather than one attractive headline.

Begin with the amount actually received
Write the requested amount, the amount proposed for disbursement and every stated deduction as separate entries. Ask for an explanation when the figures differ. Do not assume that an advertised loan amount is identical to the money that would reach your account or that a calculator includes every charge.
Understand the written terms and plan how repayments would fit before signing a borrowing agreement. Use the worksheet to identify information you still need from the responsible provider and keep uncertain figures visible. This article does not calculate a regulated quotation, establish a provider’s registration or confirm that any product is available through this website.
Compare the whole calendar, not one instalment
For each written proposal, list the payment amount, number of payments, first payment date and any separately described costs. Keep variable or uncertain amounts visible rather than replacing them with optimistic assumptions. When a term is unclear, ask the actual provider to explain it in a form you can retain.
A fictional arithmetic example shows the distinction: twelve payments of R500 total R6000, before any additional costs not included in those payments. This is not an interest rate, a real offer or a suitability assessment. The example simply illustrates why a small monthly figure cannot describe a borrowing agreement by itself.
Leave room for a decision to pause
Compare the repayment dates with your own essential expenses and reliable income dates. Keep this worksheet private; a general enquiry does not need bank statements, identity documents or account credentials. If the plan depends on another loan or on income that is not confirmed, mark that dependency instead of treating it as settled.
A website name containing bank or loans is not proof of a banking licence, credit-provider identity or approval. Verify the responsible entity independently before sharing application documents. The purpose of the worksheet is to make a proposal easier to question, including when the best next step is to seek appropriate advice or not proceed.
- Separate the requested amount from the amount disbursed.
- Record every payment, due date and separately stated cost.
- Mark uncertain charges and income assumptions clearly.
- Verify the provider before sharing application information.
